Job Description

Overview of the Position

Aligned with prevailing regulatory requirements, the Head of Risk (CRO) will have a direct line to the Board of Directors thru the BOD level Risk Oversight Committee. Reporting and working closely with the CEO and the Chief Compliance Officer, the Head of Risk is an integral part of the management team. He/she will be responsible for the overall management and direction of all risk management functions in the organization. He or she and will spearhead all initiatives in risk management procedures and standards. He/she will be part of the management team and be an advisor and partner to the business unit heads, evaluate and monitor various risk for the organization’s business activities for the local and regional market, develop risk management mechanisms for each of the business segment and make appropriate recommendation for risk exposures. He / she will ensure that all relevant stakeholders understand and accepts their risk management responsibilities and maintain an open and cooperative relationship, and access risk profiles for the organization. He/she will be responsible for employing, engaging and retaining high quality staff and defining an organization structure that is aligned and scaled to the risk control needs of the company.

Risk Management Function

  • Responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's operational and strategic risk.
  • Develops Risk Management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to an enterprise risk management framework (ISO 31000).
  • Ensures the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives of the organization.
  • Manage the group’s enterprise risk framework and architecture, update and coordinate changes to the risk entity structure, risk taxonomies, risk indicators and enterprise-wide summary risk documentation
  • Oversees/monitors all operational risk management activities of the organization.
  • Monitors and analyzes risks within the company's business units and reports on these risks to Management or provides key inputs into the company's enterprise risk or other committee that oversees the enterprise risk management process and ensures alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Conducts regular internal control risk assessments through the use of systematic and disciplined approach in evaluating and improving the effectiveness of Risk Management, Control, and Governance process in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPPIA).
  • Facilitate remediation of control deficiencies based on observations and business self-testing
  • Play a leading role in defining and embedding a sustainable culture of risk awareness, which is consistent with their core values
  • Acts as the overall SPOC for all audit engagements, conducted by both internal and external parties.

Fraud and Monitoring Function:

  • Leads transaction monitoring which involves the screening of all incoming and outgoing (mainly fiat) transactions (omni-channel) through our own rules-based thresholds. This will include managing the assessments to be done daily to reach the optimal quality of assessment at the same time without neglecting suspicious accounts.
  • Manages social and adverse (Negative) media monitoring. This involves the screening of social media of potential fraudulent and/other unlawful activities happening through the social media outlets to ensure that the platform is not used for such activities. This also involves screening conducted for negative media through press releases of relevant government agencies, news outlets, and search engine/s.
  • Heads the SEC monitoring workflow that conducts the investigation to determine whether there are individuals/customers who are associated/related to SEC- sanctioned entities in the platform based on the advisories issued by the SEC against companies/entities.
  • Responsible for the coordination on the investigation of fraud related cases referred by management, clients, and business partners.
  • Performs all similar and analogous functions and roles that are indispensable and necessary for purposes of managing transactional and institutional risk which are internal and external to the company.

Leadership and Management

  • Establishes the creation and management of Risk Management Department.
  • Manages Risk Management Department by setting budgets, targets and plans,
  • managing, supervising, coaching and appraising people within the group and other people within the organization.
  • Develops a strategic plan for the team, taking into consideration the organizational risk areas and exposures.
  • Initiates innovations to adapt to changing circumstances of the department, ensuring efficient use of available resources and allocation of financial budgets for the assigned engagement.
  • Oversees a team of risk managers responsible for managing information systems, platforms, and operating procedures in accordance with established policies and regulations

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Risk and Fraud & Monitoring roles
  • Must have prior experience in the financial technology space or banking experience
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team and must demonstrate ethical responsibility, maturity, and discretion
